About Me

My name is Ryan McEathron, and I am a music educator and musician from Calgary, Alberta. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Contemporary Popular Music from MacEwan University, as well as a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary, where I was honoured to receive the Andrew L. Doucette Award.

I bring over twenty years of experience teaching private music lessons, alongside a broad professional background as a performer, DJ, and sound technician in a wide range of musical settings. My performance experience includes extensive work as a touring and live drummer in Canada and abroad, including full-time work performing in Thailand in hotels, resorts, and live entertainment venues. I have also worked in high-volume live music venues as both a performer and sound technician, gaining experience across thousands of live performances.

Over time, I discovered that teaching was the most meaningful part of my work, as I found great fulfillment in helping students develop confidence, discipline, and a lasting appreciation for music. As an educator, I focus on building strong relationships with students while creating engaging, supportive learning environments. My teaching approach emphasizes patience, curiosity, and inquiry-based learning, while maintaining a strong foundation in musical fundamentals and skill development.

I work in K–12 music education, combining classroom training and professional performance experience to support student growth through band and general music instruction. I continue to teach privately and remain passionate about helping students of all ages discover their own connection to music.

Outside the classroom, I enjoy exploring new music, travelling, attending live performances, playing the occasional strategy video game, and seeking out new experiences whenever possible.
